It’s not really a single stroke, so you get double burning when you have a laser trace around a filled closed shape. Closed paths are created with a vector path on either side of the filled line that you see. Quick and dirty explanation for this - Most TTF and OTF type fonts rely on closed paths - it’s just a function of the drawing programs they tend to be used in. Most of the ones that list as hairline or single line fonts actually have doubled up segments that laser twice or three times in the same place… makes for a very rough looking font when it’s lasered. Second, there are very few true single line fonts available out there. You will need a licensed copy of CamBam to use this plugin. The V-Engrave operation works with text, regions, and closed polylines. The only other option I saw cost just as much. Restart CamBam, and the V-Engrave operation will appear in the Machining menu. I wasn’t able to find a reliable freeware alternative. CamBam has all the CAM features you need for any CNC machining task.
This software is a paid one and sells at 150 for a single license. If you have access to a student or teacher, you can buy the student version fairly inexpensively, but it’s priced well out of the range of most hobbyists. CamBam is a CAM software made by HexRay Ltd.
I've watched a few videos on the topic and I am clear on the process. The sign will be a 3/4' x 17' x 34' maple base with walnut (probably) letters. What I found was that Inkscape had an issue with saving AutoCAD DXF files that will open in many, If not all cad programs. Good news - there’s a way to make them happen.īad news - it’s very limited for a couple of reasons.įirst, the only way I’ve found to make them work with Illustrator is through Rhino, which carries a fairly hefty price tag. I have a lot of CNC experience but this will be my 1st inlay. Inkscape is a great open program, that allows you to create & edit many types of vector files. The search for true single line font sets goes on… (They can be scored instead of engraved, which is a HUGE time saver when you have a lot of text to process.)
